We believed that the new tax scheme increases each of the family burden undoubtedly.  In fact, middle income classes group act important role in development of country and also realize our vision- achieve the high income nation status by 2020. Prepare to Fight !

1. Do accept and fight with inflation

First of all, we need to accept and prepare fighting with inflation. As we are not able to stop it, we need to survive and hope it can pass as soon as possible. Besides that, we need to prepare and develop some strategies to minimize our losses in the “war”. Experts suggest that we should settle our debt once inflation is higher than interest rate. As the value of money become smaller during the inflation period, it is an advantage for borrower to settle their money.

2. Find More Income resources.

Besides that, we need to establish other income resources such as passive income and also portfolio income. In this sophisticated country, we cannot just depend on our working income as it is not enough to cover daily expenses unless your monthly income is categorized in high level income classes. Investment is the most common method that people wish to increase their current income. However, investors need some knowledge such as how to determine the company is worth to invest through financial report. Remember, we need to think twice and invest with plan and forethought.

3. Set our budget and stick to it.

Moreover, we also need to reduce and cut our daily expense. It is a difficult task as most of people not only need to cover their expenses but also their children education fee. As we know, tuition fee for tertiary education is huge amount and increases family burden significantly. In fact, we can reduce expenses from purchasing luxury item such as purchase new phone. I heard my friend said I-phone 6 is shortage in Malaysia and he bought it with RM 8000++ in other country. It is sure to shock to middle and lower income classes.

In conclusion, most of Malaysian citizen are struggle living in this high inflation country. However, we should take the biggest obstacle into the biggest opportunity. Like an old adage, every cloud has a silver lining. Once we survive, it means that we grow up and can confront each obstacle with our determination.

What is Balance Transfer Credit Card

Balance transfer credit card means that credit card debtors wish to transfer his debt from one bank to another credit bank of other bank. One of the main reason debtor want to transfer his balance is other bank provide lower interest rate compared to the previous bank. Debtors could save on thousands ringgit in long term as interest payment is lowered.

As we know, there are many bankruptcy cases in Malaysia. Most of them are bankrupt because they are on the hook of large amount of debt. Therefore, objective of balance transfer plans is banks can gain competitive advantages in finance market. In other perspectives, it also helps debtors to reduce the burden of credit card debt. Recently, more and more banks are offering 0% on balance transfer but debtors need to pay off their debts within 6-12 months.

In fact, credit card owners need to think twice before making balance transfer to other banks. First, they need to make use of balance transfer credit card facility online. Many online comparison sites are free and easy to use. Through it, consumers can easily avoid of paying high interest rates charged by banks. Actually, process of balance transfer credit card does not necessarily need the credit card owner name. In other word, if you have high interest credit card balance while your wife has good credit score, she could use 0% balance transfer to pay off the credit card debt.

Besides that, interest rate and period of contract are also the main concern in credit card balance transfer. Most of us will choose the lowest interest rate credit card. To increase the competitive advantages, banks will offer 0 % balance transfer credit card. As a prerequisite, 0% interest rate is only limited within 6-12 months. However, there will be extra interest payment charges after the limited time. Therefore, we should go through term and conditions carefully before subscribe any credit card.

South Korea Ferry

Passengers on the South Korea ferry sent heartbreaking messages via their mobile phone to their family members before the ferry sank. Their parents felt desperate and sad but they can’t do anything. Children were waiting to be rescued as the boat started to list in a bid to communicate with their loved in final time. According to CNN, 24 people including five students and two teachers have been found dead while 272 people are still trapped in the ferry.

One of the messages sent from one 18 year old male student and the content is “Mom, I might not be able to tell you in person. I love you very much.” While the mother texted back “Me too, son. I love you” . The mother was unaware at the time that her child is trapped in ferry. Some of the survivors mentioned that people slid along the floor of the ferry and collide with one another. The ferry began slanting of a sudden and people lost their balance and skid down from above.

Many passengers put on life vests and escape when water started rushing in. However, the ship had flooded significantly and there were few exits could be used for escaped. Most of the passengers gathered in entertainment center on the third floor but it was fully submerged when the ferry capsized. Until now, investigators haven’t said the reason of capsize of South Korean ferry. Therefore, grieving parents accused officials of being slow to react and also lack of information. Some even said that if he could dive, he would jump in the water and try to find his daughter.

In conclusion, Korea government should investigate the main cause of the ferry sank. They should give explanation to the victim’s parents and also enforce the safety of the ferry.

3 Factors to consider when choosing the right mobile operator

Nowadays, choosing a wireless carrier is not a simple thing. Some folks stick with their mobile carrier with forever. In fact, it is easily to port phone number to other carrier. In other words, there is a high entry barrier as our market is “monopoly”, actually is oligopoly by three well-established mobile operators – Maxis, Digi and Celcom. As we know, consumers are able to choose a new carrier but they have difficulties to choose a right mobile carrier.

Here is some advice to consider when choosing the right mobile operator:

  1. Customer service: Just like an old adage, “the customer is always right”. This quote indicates that customers are the life blood circulated in our bodies for any business. Good customer service will make the consumer feel comfortable. All the problems encountered by them are solved and it can increase the confidence level of consumer to the operator. Good customer service will lead to many benefits especially competition among of mobile carrier. Once the positive feedback spread, reputation of the company increases. Demand of mobile plan increases as well.
  1. Price: Pricing is always the big concern for consumers. Most of the consumer will wish to maximize their utilization with the lowest amount of money they spend. In opposition, mobile operators hope to maximize their profit by increase the price of mobile phone but they will undergo excessive risk- losing customers. Consumer can easily to determine which company will offer the cheapest plan. In Malaysia, Maxis, Digi and Celcom had controlled the market and set up the price for each type of phone.
  1. Future of Company: This is also an important issue that consumer should consider .We need to choose the company with high innovative and has an eye on future. For example, Apple is currently in the recruiting stage for a new development team in Taiwan and this group will work on the next generation of I-phone development. With the bright future of company, consumers may rest assured and subscribe any mobile plan based on their needs.

Education

A few days ago, Budget 2015 is set to table at the Dewan Rakyat. Most of us focus on cost of living, economic growth and SME development. In fact, education is also important in our life. It is the chief factor for developing human capital and nurture teenagers as they are our future chief person.

Our ministry allocates book vouchers worth RM250 for each student at a tertiary level and RM150 to secondary and primary students. In Budget 2015, RM30 million is provided to technical training and RM72 million to implement three programs in form of scholarship and financial assistance to benefit 6000 people. The more attractive issue is government offer 2x tax relief for companies who offer internship for diploma and vocational students. It can increase the competitiveness of diploma student in this society.

Beside that , schools including national school, Tamil school are allocated RM800 million which RM 450 million will be provided for national schools and only RM50 million for SJKC,SJKT and Chinese school. In regard to loans, government provides 10% rebate for personal loan which has been consistently repaid and 20% rebate who can settle their PTPTN by 31 March 2015. Until August 2014, there is only 46% of debt had been collected.

In fact, the allocation to each department especially education are not enough. Next year in parliamentary session, I am expecting PM will ask for more money through a supplementary budget. A budget must address future needs and Budget 2015 is giving Malaysia the short end of stick.

How GST affect car prices

Good and Sales Tax (GST) have become a hot topic recently. Our Malaysia citizens are concern about how GST affects their daily expenses such as food, petrol and etc.  Some families also plan to buy a new car for their teenagers and wonder that what the car price is after GST implemented. Government mentioned that GST will make cars cheaper because 6% rate is lower than current 10% services tax and excise duty when GST is implemented. However it still remains unclear in each segment of the supply chain in car industry. So they still cannot confirm whether the car price will decrease or not until Budget 2015 is set to tabled.

Some of Malaysia citizen are curious about that second tier seller can make any GST refund if he sells to the end-user with a lower price than what he had purchase. For example, Dealer A buy a car with RM100,000 plus 6% GST = RM106000. However, his car have a less severe accident and Dealer A sell the vehicle with RM85000 plus 6% GST =RM90100. So ,  the problem is whether he can get a drawback of RM900 from custom. In fact, dealer A can claim the input tax incurred in the month the acquisitions were made.

Our Government will plan to implement the Voluntary Vehicle Scrapping Policy (VVSP) next year and provide at least RM5,000 in cash coupons for car owner when tabling the 2015 Budget in the Parliament.  The government is currently studying this proposal and will take into consideration the current fiscal conditions (high debt) of the government in providing at least RM5,000 in cash rebates for vehicle owners taking part in the program. This will eventually help reduce fuel consumption and enhance road safety.

In conclusion, the replacement of Sales and Service Tax with GST is intended to be revenue-neutral to the government. So in theory, consumers may represent a minimal effect to the aggregate prices of everyday goods and services. There are 3 scenarios to see what it means for prices, (1) for items charged with Service Tax, (2) for items charged with Sales Tax, and (3) for items with no Service or Sales Taxes:

  • 6% Service Tax Abolished, 6% GST introduced – Pay the same
  • 10% Sales Tax Abolished, 6% GST introduced – Pay less
  • SST Exempt Items, 6% GST introduced – Pay more

Inflation and Credit card debt

Inflation is like sky-rocketing and has been a major concern over the past few years in Malaysia. Our real money value- Ringgit is quickly eroded if interest on your accounts fails to keep pace with the rising cost of goods and services. To add salt on wound, Good Sales Tax (GST) is implemented in 1 April 2015 and we suspect that it will spell disaster to low and medium income classes.

Most of us described inflation as ‘the silent thief’. Savers often left unaware of the effect that inflation is having on their disposable income. While you may not physically lose money as a result of rising inflation, the real value or purchasing power of citizen and what is in your bank account could be depreciated. Therefore, it’s important to ensure that the interest rate that you earn exceed inflation rate even after you have paid taxes on the interest gained on your money.

As inflation rises, you may consider consolidating your debt to reduce your debt burden. But, there are trap attached to debt consolidation in times of inflation. Debt consolidation is a process through which you group your debts as a single debt with a lower interest rate. It can help you to pay off your debts faster with either lower monthly payment. It will be easier as interest rates are falling, but more challenging when the interest rates rise as a result of inflation.

The main factor that affects debt consolidation is the interest rate. You are more affordable to pay monthly interest payment if interest rate you pay on consolidation is low. So if you can pay a lower consolidated rate, more of your payment will go towards principal and less toward interest. Thus you will be able to pay off the debt faster.

When you consolidate debts, you are rolling over several unsecured debt as one, so you can make one payment a month rather than several. It makes it easier to monitor your balance and move faster toward becoming debt-free. Make sure that you don’t go back and run up your credit card debt again or the final situation will be worse than the start once you move your debts from the credit card to a consolidated loan.

Teens and Credit card

Some families give their children a supplementary credit card when they went to other country to complete their tertiary education. Parents believe that their children would be able to learn how to manage credit. They also opined that they can monitor children spending behavior easily through this credit card. And they hope that they will practice good habit when start learning to use that credit card.  It will give most of parents a peace of mind as their children can use that credit card during emergencies.

In fact, credit card can offer convenience but also can be a double-edge sword. Some of parents believe that they should refrain from giving their children a credit card. One of the main culprit is credit card will create the habit of spending future money. Experts suggest that a lot of teenagers are very susceptible to peer pressure and they find it difficult to control their luxury spending. They conclude that there is no harm in issuing a credit card to a financially responsible teen but it will be a big trouble to the immature youth who cannot use them wisely.

In my opinion, I think parents act as a vital role in impart your teenager the right approach to use credit card. First of all, you should behave yourself and set a precedent for your children. As we know, children always observe their parents and emulate their habit. For the parents who use multiple cards and also carry on card debt, you are not suitable to introduce credit card to your children. Once your teenager appear to have unlimited wants and always ask for extra money, he may not ready for owning a credit card. It is an immaturity action that you can observe in daily life.

In conclusion, parents should enforce penalties to your teenagers who break the rule and cannot pay the monthly outstanding balance. Don’t hesitate to take the card from him for first time he break the rule. After that ,we should monitor how they manage their credit card. If they still repeat the same mistakes, they may not mature enough to handle the cards and take away the card.
